My Scrap Chick Belly Box Tutorial

Meet our newest addition to the Belly Box lineup, My Scrap Chick.  She's our thank you gift to all of you after our big Belly Box giveaway on facebook where so many of you helped promote our popular Belly Boxes. We want everyone to win so we came up with this idea to share a belly box for free.
 
 

T U T O R I A L  for Belly Boxes....

Cut out all your pattern pieces. Pre-fold all the score lines for the box back and box front.  The box back will be a valley fold, the box front will be all mountain folds.


Now is a good time to ink the edges if you plan to. After inking I find it easiest to add all the parts and pieces to front and back sections of the box before putting them together. This allows me to work with the sections laying flat on my surface,
 

Once the front and back are decorated with the parts, flip the box front (belly) over as shown. The decorated side of the box will be face down. Add glue to the inside box bottom then attach the front flap of box back.
 
 

Now your box should be one piece as shown above and you are ready to glue the side tabs. This is a good time to re-crease all the folds and tabs before glueing.


Flip the entire box over as shown and add glue to the side tabs
 

Fold up the sides and the belly front and adhere tabs to box front. Then do the same with the tabs for back of box.


And now your box is ready to fill with goodies.


 

Now keep in mind, we just love the pink and black but this cute chick would be cute in any color you like. It's fun too, to mix things up with printed papers. Whatever you choose, have fun!!

    Such a darling Chick Belly Box and thanks for making it free...however something is very wrong with your download of the Design Space file. If you download and open in Design Space you'll see what I mean.

    It appears that all SVG files are corrupted in Design Space.....so disappointed.

    The new SVG for DS loaded ok for me, but now when I go to cut it says "An error has occured". Are the score lines supposed to actually cut or should I change them to score? That's a lot of score lines...

      I changed all my cut lines to score, but first had to attach them, it was a lot. Minus my problems with sizing and how things should be assembled, they turned out cute. Smaller than I thought they would be.

      You can change the dash lines to score lines if you like but it's okay to if you just cut them. Much easier I think just cutting them but it's really a matter of preference.     Has anyone been able to get this to work in design space? I was really looking forward to purchasing some of the other files but wanted to do a test one first

      I got it to work. You have to upload the svg ds file. If loaded into ds gigantic so had to resize and then try to match up both pieces. Also, had to do some ungrouping to attach the score lines and that messed up my sizing again. Wished she had videos as I had to cut some pieces off as I couldn't figure out where the heck they were supposed to go.

      There will be folders for each file type, so you will want to look in the "SVG" folder. Or is you are using Design Space look in the "svgDS" folder. :)

      All the parts will import to your software at the correct size. No resizing is needed. But if you want to make it larger or smaller be sure to have all pieces on the mat and selected, then resize keeping proportions.

      Finished dimensions are the following.
      back of box (chick):5.6" tall x 7" wide from wing tips.
      box bottom: 4"wide x 2.6" deep
