Tutorial. How To Use our SVGs with Cricut Design Space

The file we used in the tutorial below is MyScrapChick's Belly Box.
You are welcome to try it out for FREE with the new SVG files.

*SVGs import at correct size to Design Space.

Each and every SVG in our store will import to Design Space at the correct size with no resizing needed. You won't have to look up the measurements elsewhere.

*Better score/dash lines.

Each group of dash lines (like the fold line on a card) has been combined into a single object, instead a billion tiny pieces. Just click on any part of the dash lines on a pattern piece and the entire set of dash lines is selected. You can choose to either cut or score those fold lines in Design Space.

STEP by STEP for Design Space...

1.-Downloading and unzipping product files.

All files come in a zipped/compressed folder and must be UNzipped/Extracted before using.

NOTE: We have a lot of people loving our pink folders shown here but this was created for pretty graphic purposes only. The actual downloaded folders will be still be the same old yellow. Sorry about that.

2.-All product folders are uniform in their setup.

When you know how the files are setup you will be able to find what you are looking for much quicker.

FILE CONTENTS

1. Folders are grouped by file type.
AI-DXF-GSD-SVG
Design Space uses the SVG folder.

Some older patterns may also contain KNK and WPC.

2. Photo of Project
As you browse folders, this photo provides a quick snapshot of the content.

3. PDF for reference
This PDF has the parts outlined and individually labeled. If you see a part and can't remember what it goes to, look in this pdf. If there are special tips those will be in this pdf also. If there is a tutorial it will be included here or as a separate PDF in this same folder. Some items will have a link in the product page to an online photo tutorial.

You are allowed to save private backups of your files to your pc or a usb drive and it's highly recommended to do so from time to time. If you ever have a pc crash, you can also login to your account and download your files again anytime.

3.-Open Design Space.

Go to: http://cricut.com/design
Click on Create New Project to open software.
Click on Upload Images in left tool bar.

Click on Upload Image.

_____________________________________________

4.-Upload SVGs.

Click the blue "BROWSE" button and navigate to the folder with your SVG files.
Double click on the SVG you want to import.

 _____________________________________________

5.-Saving SVG to Design Space.

When the SVG is uploaded a preview is shown. Click on SAVE.

After saving the file repeat this step to upload more SVGs.
_____________________________________________

6.-Selecting files to load to DS.

When you are done uploading your SVGs, a small preview of each file is shown. Select the files you want to use by clicking on the preview. A green check appears in corner.
Click INSERT IMAGES button on lower right.

  _____________________________________________

7.-SVGs you've selected are displayed in software.

Each file with all it's parts will stay grouped for now and you can move them around on the screen to make it easier to view and work with.

  _____________________________________________

8.-Working with score/dash lines.

The score lines and pattern piece need to be held in place.
Select both the pattern piece and the score lines.
Click on ATTACH in the edit window at right.
Note: The attach command has moved to the bottom of the flyout box in the new updates but the process is still the same.
Pattern piece with score lines attached is now ready to go to the cutting mat.
*If you want to use the score tool on Cricut for the dash lines go to the next step before sending to cutting mat.

_____________________________________________

9.-How to use score tool for dash lines.

Select the pattern piece with dash lines.
Click on the Scissors icon in the right tool bar, under the layers tab.
In flyout that opens, click on the SCORE icon. The dash lines will change appearance indicating the change.

 _____________________________________________

You are now ready to cut the pattern pieces.

Click on the green "GO" button in the tool bar at the top of the page.

  5. So I can go into my account and re-download every file that I had purchased from day one, and they will all be fixed to cut with my cricut without re-sizing? Just making sure I understand this, before I spend hours upon hours to re downloading all of my files. I do not mind taking the time to do so, and I thank you for the hard work! and the hours it took!

    1. If they are currently on the site and listed under your download tab they will have new svgs and can be downloaded again. No re-sizing needed in Design Space. I won't promise I haven't missed one, but if you do run across one that gives you any trouble please let me know and I'll get it fixed and resent.

I wish there was a way to do it without having to make everybody download again. I know that's a bugger but I'm so glad we have a way to make updates available. And we really appreciate your business. Thank you.

    1. That particular Belly Box has 3 files total so you would actually load all 3.

  8. Hi, Still so new to all of this-- working with a Brother scanNcut machine... these files, the pictures, they are in color, are they just in color so we can see them better? I mean, it's just the outline we expect to be cut? Right?

  9. Hi Cara, We provide the color photo so you can see a finished project or photo of what it will look like when it's done.

The SVGs in the "SVG" folder are cutting files that will work with ScanNcut to cut the pattern shapes out of cardstock.

  10. I use a brother scan n cut, will your files work on it as well?

    1. Yes, these files will work with any cutter or software that uses SVG files. For ScanNCut use their canvas software https://scanncutcanvas.brother.com/en to upload the SVG and then save as FCM. The NEW ScanNCut 2 will read SVG files without having to use the software to convert.

  12. Can cricut expression2 use cricut design space an upload & cut own svg files?

    1. Sadly no, the older Cricuts can no longer use svgs and they won't work with Cricut's Design Space online software either, only the newer Cricut Explores will work with that.

  13. Just found you site as I was looking for paper frames. Thanks so very much for transforming to Cricut Design Space and for the download instructions to that site! This is a lifesaver! Would it be possible to provide svg's of a layered frame with the same designs to fit 8x10 photos? Thanks again!

  14. you do such an amazing job of supporting your site and files. I have been with you since the very beginning. The fact that we have unlimited downloads of the files that we purchased many years ago is also great. Thanks for caring and taking care of us.

  16. Thank you for all of this super hard work. What a monumental project that must have been. I re-downloaded all of my MSC files (and I have probably 90% of your store plus retired imaages/sets) and have been using the new .svg files with ease! Thank you again.

  17. Hello, Thank you so much for doing this. I have a question can you upload one file at once. Example - some of the files have 5 different designs in them and if you want all of them to do a page do you haft to do 1 at a time or can you do all 5? Thank you,

    1. Hi Connie, You do need to load one file at a time to the upload area (see step 5 above), but once they are all loaded you can click as many files as you like (see step 6) and that will load them to the mat.

  19. I have many of your files and greatly appreciate the resizing. I just found this tutorial today and love the chick belly box. It says you can download that box for free but I can't locate that box and the link does not work. Anyway to get the chick box?

  20. Yo he comprado muchos archivos con ustedes, los cortaba con tijeras, pero estoy empezando a usar mi equipo que he comprado silhouette cameo 2... Mi duda es: para usarlos con cameo también tengo que bajar los nuevos archivos??

    1. ..."I bought many files with you, cut them with scissors, but I'm starting to use my computer I bought silhouette cameo 2 ... My question is: for use with cameo also have to download the new files ??"...

Hi Elsa. To use the files with the Cameo you will want to use the svg files. You will find those in the folder named "SVG". If you did not save those when you downloaded the first time, you can download again. Let us know if you need more help with that. ~ Val

  21. Not sure what I am doing wrong - I have uploaded many of my SVG files onto Design Space, but when I open a new project and insert the images, they are very tiny and I have to figure out how to resize. I am sure I am doing something wrong, but I cannot figure out what it is. Thanks. Love your files!!!

    1. Hi Cheri, Sounds like you have the older versions of the SVGs. We updated all our files to work really well with Design Space and reloaded the final ones in Feb of 2016. You may want to go thru your past purchases and download them again to get these new files. Let me know if you need more help with too. ~ Val

  22. So, how exactly do your files upload without resizing in design space? I have created a couple files in inkscape and cannot, for the life of me, get them to upload true to size. Please share as I am pulling my hair out!!! My couple of files are for my personal use only, so I am not a competitor - just a usual silhouette user that is trying to share my svg with a cricut user so we can work on a my design together.

  23. Thank you SO much for the files!! I have a question.. I don't know what program you're designing in - I'm working in Illustrator. Keeping my fingers crossed you're using the same! When I create a 'dashed' line in Illustrator, as soon as I click on the scissors icon in Design Space, it turns to a solid cut line. So instead of perforating my line, my Cricut will just cut the piece off. I've tried 'expanding' the line in Illustrator, and it will then work as a perforation - but it will cut every dash, as a teensy, narrow little 'box'. I'm wondering how you design your dashed lines to cut correctly. Thank you!!! ~Jennifer
